Market House - Renovations

Monaghan County Council purchased the Market House in 1999 from NWRTO (North West Tourism) for £120,000 / €152,368. The Council submitted an application to the then Dept. of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands in May 2001 for the sum of £588,000 / €746,000 to develop the Market House as a dedicated arts space. In August 2001 the full amount was awarded on condition that Monaghan County Council allocates 25% to the above sum giving a total budget of £784,000 / €995,000.

Work started on the Market House in late August 2002, with the architects (Orna Hanly Architects) having drawn up detailed plans to develop the space. Planning permission was applied for from the Monaghan Town Council and subsequently granted.
