Diesel Wash

The illegal dumping of diesel laundering waste (diesel wash) has been a huge problem inCountyMonaghansince 2003. Over the period 2003-2011 Monaghan County Council has dealt with in excess of 130 incidents of diesel wash dumping.  The cost of conducting site cleanups and properly disposing of this hazardous material has been approximately €1,500,000. Unfortunately 2011 has seen a dramatic increase in the number of such incidents with over 30 incidents.

Huge costs are incurred as the hazardous waste material must be sent abroad for disposal. Monaghan County Council would ask the public to be vigilant and if they become aware of any instances of dumped barrels or IBC containers to contact their local Gardai station or the Environment Section of Monaghan County Council on 047-30592/30593 or Freephone 1800200014 or on email at environment@monaghancoco.ie
