Proposed Changes to Speed Limits 2012

Monaghan County Council intends to make special speed limit bye-laws for the County and the following is a list of the roads and proposed changes.

The draft bye-laws and accompanying maps are available for inspection during normal office hours from Thursday 26th January to Friday 24th February 2012 at the offices of Monaghan Co. Council in MTEK II Building, Knockaconny, Armagh Road, Monaghan and in the Area Offices of Carrickmacross, Castleblayney, Clones and North Monaghan. They may also be viewed on the website of Monaghan Co. Council www.monaghancoco.ie.  Submissions on the speed limits may be made by the public but must be received in writing by Friday 9th March 2012.

Castleblayney Area:  Cremartin -New

(a)  The Scotch Corner- Castleblayney Road (LP03411) between a point 120 metres north west of its junction with the Cloghan Road (LP03400) and a point 120 metres southeast of the said junction.

(b)  The Cloghan Road (LP03400) for a distance of 295 metres east from its junction with the Scotch Corner – Castleblayney Road (LP03411)

Carrickmacross Area – Lurgans - New

The LS8900 Lurgans for a distance of 785 meters from a point where the boundary of the town Council of Carrickmacross intersects the southern side of the road.

Clones Area – Newbliss – change to existing

The Monaghan-Drum Road between a point 575 metres north-east of its junction with the Ballybay Road and a point 420 metres south-east of its junction with the Hazel Brae Road.

 North Monaghan Area – Clontibret - change to existing

(a) The Tullybuck road between a point at its junction with the old Monaghan- Castleblayney road and a point 825 metres east of said junction.

(b) The old Monaghan-Castleblayney Road between a point at the junction with the N2 road and a point 196 metres south-east of its junction with the Keady Road.

 North Monaghan Area -Monaghan Town– change to existing

(g) The Emyvale Road (National Road N2) from the town council boundary to a point 376 metres north-west of said boundary.

(i)  The Monaghan Town By-Pass (National Road N2) between a point 70m north of the yield line on the Southern Roundabout of the Monaghan Town By-Pass  and a point 667 metres south-east of the yield line on said roundabout, along the N2 Dublin-Derry Road.

Carrickmacross Area – Lough Egish change to existing

The Castleblayney-Shercock Road R181 between a point 100 metres north of its junction with the Ballybay-Carrickmacross Road R180 and a point 1000m metres south of the said junction.

As a result of changes to 50kmph Monaghan Town at (g) and (i) above the following speed limit will be omitted from the Bye Laws.

12.  The following roads in and adjacent to the Town Council of Monaghan

The Castleblayney Road (National Road N2) between a point 417 metres south-east of the yield line on the Southern Roundabout of the Monaghan Town By-Pass (National Road N2) and a point 667 metres south-east of the yield line on said roundabout. (To be omitted)

The Emyvale Road (National Road N2) between a point 126 metres north-west of the town council boundary and a point 376 metres north-west of said boundary. (To be omitted)
